"The staggered façades of the Malik building still maintain a distinctive presence in the center of the city. The formal response to the urban scale and orientation has created a visual language that is highly relevant and outstanding. Brick panel and beams of the Nifdi building as well as the horizontal timber panels on the balconies became fixed features in many Khartoum buildings for many years. These types of apartment blocks, with rentable shop space at the bottom, came into appearance in the 60s and 70s [...] in Khartoum."
