EXTENDED CINEMATICS  Where Film Becomes Architecture & Vice Versa
Public Talk & Intensive Workshops

Extended Cinematics is a unique analytical and design process by means of which architectural designers can systematically transform a narrative film into one or more architectural objects. As it is based on semio-linguistics, it is also an effective tool for structuring thought processes and generating differential ideas especially in periods of creative block.

Starting with an open talk at Dawawine, Richard Douzjian will introduce Extended Cinematics to the larger public and announce the commencement of two workshops:

• XC|ACA_From Film to Architecture: an architectural design workshop where selected films will be transformed into architecture;
• XC|Dawawine_From Architecture to Film: a filmmaking workshop where selected buildings will be transformed into film.

All works produced in both workshops will eventually be presented to the public.

Workshop Participation:

XC|ACA_From Film to Architecture: 5-day intensive architectural design workshop open to all architects, professionals and final-year students, who are interested in film and narrative structures, but more importantly, concerned with expanding their scope of creative processes with emphasis on cross-disciplinary thinking. This workshop will take place at the Arab Center for Architecture

XC|Dawawine_ From Architecture to Film: 5-day intensive filmmaking workshop open to all filmmakers and final-year film students who are interested in architecture and narrative structures, but more importantly, concerned with expanding their scope of creative processes with emphasis on cross-disciplinary thinking and new perspectives towards the built environment. This workshop will take place at Dawawine
